COLOMBO, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has officially launched a unified web platform for its diplomatic missions and overseas offices, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said.

The Ministry also launched its revamped official website at a ceremony chaired by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath on Monday.

Under the first phase of the Common Website Platform project, seven Sri Lankan overseas missions have been integrated into the unified system. These include the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bucharest, Romania, the High Commission in Male, the Maldives, the High Commission in New Delhi, India, the Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, the High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand, the Embassy in The Hague, the Netherlands, and the Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.

The Ministry noted that the project will be expanded in phases, with the objective of bringing all Sri Lanka overseas missions abroad under the standardized digital platform in the near future.

Herath said this step was taken to improve public services through efficiency and accountability. He added the new platform would strengthen digital links between Sri Lankans and foreign stakeholders.

Sri Lanka has over 60 overseas diplomatic missions maintaining separate websites. The unified platform was proposed as a measure to replace outdated and non-functional official websites which run on obsolete technologies.
