ISLAMABAD, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan recorded a current account deficit of 324 million U.S. dollars in April 2026, compared with a surplus of 1.134 billion dollars in March, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan on Monday.
The central bank said the country had posted a deficit of 12 million dollars in April 2025.
The widening deficit was driven by a higher import bill and only a marginal increase in exports during the month, the data showed.
Pakistan's total exports of goods and services stood at 3.47 billion dollars in April, up more than 3 percent from 3.36 billion dollars in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, imports rose by over 11 percent year-on-year to 6.86 billion dollars, compared with 6.16 billion dollars recorded in April 2025.
Workers' remittances reached 3.54 billion dollars during the month, marking an 11 percent increase from 3.18 billion dollars in the corresponding period last year. ■
