TOKYO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and two others injured after multiple intruders broke into a house in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, local media reported Friday.

The victims, a mother and her two sons, were attacked inside their home in Kaminokawa during the robbery. The 69-year-old mother was found dead with stab wounds to the chest, while her sons, in their 40s and 30s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital, according to Kyodo News.

Police received an emergency call from the house at around 9:30 a.m. local time on Thursday. Later the same day, officers arrested a male suspect claiming to be a 16-year-old high school student on suspicion of robbery and murder after he was found on a nearby street. Police said one or more suspects remain at large.

Public broadcaster NHK reported that the family had contacted police several times over the past month about a suspicious vehicle seen near their home. The incident occurred despite increased police patrols in the area, prompting authorities to examine whether their response had been adequate.
