HANOI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi has approved a 100-year master plan aimed at transforming the city into a green, smart and globally competitive metropolis in the Asia-Pacific region, the Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday.

The plan envisions the city developing under a multi-center urban model while promoting digital transformation, green transition, the circular economy and climate change resilience across its area of about 3,360 square kilometers, according to the report.

Hanoi is targeting to resolve prolonged traffic congestion by 2030 through expanded metro systems and other transport infrastructure, while the city's population is projected to reach 14-15 million by 2030, 15-16 million by 2045 and 17-19 million by 2065, with long-term population capped at 20 million.

Urban construction land is planned to account for up to 60 percent of the city's total natural area by 2065, with the remainder reserved for green corridors, forests and ecological spaces, the report said.

Under the blueprint, the city aims to become a leading innovation hub in the Asia-Pacific region by 2045 and a global city with high living standards and a high level of happiness by 2065, before developing into a model sustainable megacity with major influence in global urban networks after 2085.
