ISLAMABAD, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's household internet connections have increased from 1.9 million in 2024 to 5.1 million in 2026, officials told a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.
During the meeting held to review the affairs and progress of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, officials briefed the prime minister that the country's IT exports are expected to reach between 4.5 billion and 4.6 billion U.S. dollars during the current fiscal year.
The meeting was also informed that a recent auction for 5G services in Pakistan generated 509 million U.S. dollars in revenue.
Addressing the meeting, Sharif said the promotion of the IT sector and an increase in IT-related exports remain among the government's top priorities.
He added that Pakistan's youth possess immense potential in the field of information technology and stressed the need to fully utilize their capabilities for national development. ■
