BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Fire and Rescue Department celebrated its 66th anniversary on Thursday with the final competition of the Lifesaver 995 Community Challenge held near the capital, testing participants' competence through a series of firefighting challenges.
According to the department, the initiative aims to strengthen the community's skills as first responders in dealing with emergency situations, in line with ongoing efforts to improve public preparedness for fire and emergency incidents.
During the celebration, the department's Special Technical Rescue Assistance Team (SATREA) conducted several demonstrations showcasing rescue expertise using technical rope rescue methods.
The performance highlighted the competence, courage and preparedness of team members in carrying out rescue operations involving incidents such as building collapses caused by earthquakes, tsunamis and similar disasters. ■
