KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's services producer price index (SPPI), which measures changes in producer prices within the country's domestic services sector, continued to increase by 2.1 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, up from 1 percent in the previous quarter, official data showed Thursday.
The accommodation and food and beverage service activities index rose by 5.7 percent, while the transportation index increased by 3.8 percent, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.
The education sector recorded an increase of 1.9 percent. Other indices that registered increases were arts, entertainment and recreation (1.6 percent), health (1.5 percent), professional (1 percent), and real estate activities (0.6 percent).
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the SPPI grew 1.4 percent, from a 0.3 percent increase in the previous quarter. ■
