ALMATY, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and five others injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at an industrial facility in Ust-Kamenogorsk of the East Kazakhstan region, the Kazinform news agency reported on Tuesday.
At around 8:15 a.m. local time (0315 GMT) on Monday, a metallurgical dust explosion at a plant operated by metallurgical company Kazzinc triggered a fire and partial structural collapse, the agency reported, citing a source of the company.
The fire, which covered approximately 120 square meters, has since been contained, while emergency services continue debris clearance and site inspections, said the report.
The explosion also released metallurgical dust, but environmental monitoring found no elevated levels of air pollution, it added. ■
