MANILA, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Two residents were killed after a fire swept through a residential area in the municipality of San Mateo, Rizal province, east of Manila, on Monday, authorities said.
The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that the blaze broke out at around 11 a.m. local time, claiming the lives of two. The fire also destroyed at least six houses in the affected community.
The San Mateo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirmed the fatalities.
The fire was extinguished at 12:31 p.m. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. ■
