COLOMBO, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will establish a dedicated authority to protect and restore the Central Highlands after recent landslide damage linked to Cyclone Dithwah, the President's Media Division (PMD) said on Wednesday.

The proposed authority will manage environmental restoration in Sri Lanka's upper watershed areas and improve institutional coordination, the PMD said.

The division said the authority will also facilitate institutional coordination to achieve key objectives, such as national water security, food security, disaster risk reduction, energy efficiency, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and natural capital accounting.
