SUVA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Civil servants working in some of Fiji's most remote rural and maritime areas are still depending on public transport to reach local communities, exposing significant gaps in service delivery.

Fiji's Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management has announced plans to address the issue, as in some parts of the country, limited and infrequent bus services are disrupting fieldwork, with officials often unable to arrive at isolated locations on time, according to local media reports on Sunday.

When touring the Northern Division this week, Minister Mosese Bulitavu stated that assessments in the North have revealed critical transport challenges, especially in areas like Kubulau and Savusavu.

He emphasized that improving mobility is essential for officers to effectively serve rural communities, particularly where difficult terrain and long distances already pose major obstacles.
