BANGKOK, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas confirmed that the public debt ceiling remains unchanged at 70 percent of gross domestic product(GDP), local media reported on Wednesday.

He noted that a budget review meeting had been completed, during which Thailand's four key economic agencies agreed to keep the fiscal 2027 expenditure budget ceiling at the original level set by the cabinet on Nov. 25, 2025, at 3.788 trillion baht (around 118 billion U.S. dollars).

When asked whether there was discussion about raising the public debt ceiling, Ekniti replied that there had not been any such expansion yet.

Thailand's public debt currently stands at about 66 percent of GDP, which indicates that around 4 percent of "fiscal space" remains, equivalent to about 800 billion baht.

The current value-added tax rate of 7 percent will be retained for another year through September 2027, to stay aligned with current economic conditions and avoid adding to living-cost pressures, Ekniti added.
