KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's central bank-owned Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) said Thursday that it processed 8.44 billion digital payment transactions in 2025, reflecting that digital payments are increasingly the preferred payment method across the country.
The rise is driven by continued adoption across banks, non-bank participants, businesses and consumers, PayNet said in a statement.
According to the statement, the transactions span retail, transport, peer-to-peer transfers and small businesses. The growth aligns with Bank Negara Malaysia's Financial Sector Blueprint 2022-2026, which emphasizes inclusive and secure digital payment adoption.
PayNet chief executive officer Praveen Rajan said the sustained growth signals a broader shift in how Malaysians manage money, supported by innovation and collaboration across banks, non-bank players and the government. ■
