JAKARTA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province erupted on Wednesday, sending a plume of volcanic ash approximately 1,500 meters above its summit, according to the Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).
The PVMBG reported that the eruption occurred at 6:31 p.m. local time and lasted around three and a half minutes, with ash drifting southwest. Despite the activity, authorities noted no significant spike in volcanic tremors.
The volcano remains at a Level II alert on the country's four-tier warning scale.
Residents and tourists are advised to stay clear of a four-kilometer exclusion zone around the crater. Officials also urged the public to wear masks and eye protection, while remaining vigilant for potential rain-triggered lahars in nearby river systems. ■
