MANILA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines on Wednesday raised an El Nino alert, warning of possible dry spells and droughts across parts of the country from the coming months through early 2027, according to local authorities.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) suggested a 79 percent chance of El Nino emerging from June to August.
However, the PAGASA noted that above-normal rainfall may still occur over western sections of the country during the southwest monsoon season.
Under PAGASA's alert system, an El Nino alert is issued when there is at least a 70 percent chance of the phenomenon forming within the next two to three months. ■
