Traffic accident on key highway leaves 5 dead, 1 injured in E. Afghanistan

KABUL, April 18 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and one other injured in a traffic accident on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in eastern Afghanistan's Wardak province, the official Bakhtar news agency reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the accident occurred on Friday evening in Sayed Abad district of the province. Local authorities said the crash was caused by negligence and reckless driving.

The injured individual was immediately transferred to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Traffic accidents remain a recurring concern on major highways in Afghanistan, often attributed to speeding, poor road conditions, and limited enforcement of traffic regulations.
