SYDNEY, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A pilot was injured after a light plane crashed southwest of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash in a field near the small town of Berrima, 105 km southwest of Sydney, around 7:50 a.m. and arrived to find the pilot trapped in the wreckage.
The pilot, a man aged in his 50s who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, was freed and treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that he is expected to be airlifted to a Sydney hospital.
A minor fuel leak from the aircraft was isolated and firefighters were deployed to the scene as a precaution.
Police said aviation authorities had been notified and that an investigation has commenced. ■
