TOKYO, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended higher on Wednesday as the benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 256.85 points, or 0.44 percent, from Tuesday at 58,134.24.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 15.06 points, or 0.40 percent, higher at 3,770.33.
On the stock market, the Nikkei stock index rose above the 58,000 line for the first time since March 2.
However, gains were trimmed by profit-taking as investors grew wary of the rapid pace of the surge since buying was concentrated in heavyweight shares, dealers said. ■
