BANGKOK, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The Thai Ministry of Finance has warned that government revenue collection in the second half of fiscal 2026 faces heightened risks from the energy crisis, local media reported on Tuesday.

Thailand's government revenue in the first five months of fiscal 2026 (October 2025 to February 2026) totalled about 1.04 trillion baht, the government's Fiscal Balance Report showed.

Lavaron Sangsnit, permanent secretary of the finance ministry, said an assessment of the outlook from the sixth month onwards showed that the situation would become significantly more difficult and challenging. A crucial factor affecting the government's ability to collect revenue is the situation in the Middle East, which has triggered a global energy crisis.

The second half of the year will be particularly important because it is the period for corporate income tax collection, which reflects business performance and the broader economic picture from the previous year, Lavaron added.

With the revenue outlook showing signs of mounting strain, the ministry said it must be cautious about policies, ruling out cuts to oil excise tax for fear of undermining fiscal stability.
