Sri Lanka's remittances rise 17.5 pct in March to 814 mln USD

COLOMBO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's official remittances rose 17.5 percent year-on-year to 814.8 million U.S. dollars in March 2026, continuing the upward trend seen since 2024, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

The CBSL data showed that remittances from Sri Lankan workers abroad increased 26.5 percent year-on-year to 2.3 billion dollars in the first three months of 2026.

In 2025, Sri Lankan workers sent home a record 8.08 billion dollars.

Worker remittances are one of Sri Lanka's top sources of foreign exchange earnings.
