ALMATY, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Cargo transportation in Kazakhstan increased by 8 percent year on year in the first three months of 2026, reaching 239.8 million tons, the country's Bureau of National Statistics reported on Monday.
The number of passengers rose by 9.3 percent to 483.7 million during the same period. At the same time, cargo turnover declined by 3.3 percent to 133 billion ton-km, while passenger turnover increased by 4.8 percent to 21.7 billion passenger-km.
Transport enterprises revenue reached 1.84 trillion tenge (about 3.89 billion U.S. dollars), of which 1.46 trillion tenge came from freight transport and 376.4 billion tenge from passenger services.
Earlier, it was reported that rail freight between Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries has increased by 34 percent since the beginning of 2026, according to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway operator. ■
