CANBERRA, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday that he wants to see a resumption of peace talks between the United States and Iran, and an end to the conflict in the Middle East.
He made the remarks in a television interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation when asked about U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Albanese said he wants to see "that peace has broken out on a permanent basis, that we have de-escalation, that we have an end to civilian loss of life, we have an end to loss of civilian infrastructure, and that importantly, the Strait of Hormuz is about to be open with freedom of navigation."
He added that Australia has not been asked to join the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and wants to see freedom of navigation resume in the critical trade route. ■
