KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will request the United Nations (UN) to review the terms of deployment for peacekeeping missions, including the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) 850-13 under the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), following the worsening security situation in the country, an official said on Thursday.

This is due to the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, which is no longer conducive to a peacekeeping mission, and concerns over the safety of more than 500 Malbatt personnel stationed there, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan told a press briefing.

"In such circumstances, we want to request the UN to review the terms or the duration of the mission, as we do not want our peacekeeping personnel to be exposed to danger or be injured," he said.

Separately, the ministry said in a statement that the ongoing attacks by Israel against Lebanon are putting the U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement in jeopardy.

"These repeated acts of aggression constitute a blatant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a direct defiance of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions," it said, adding that such actions risk the total destabilization of the region, with grave implications for global peace and security.
