SEOUL, April 9 (Xinhua) -- South Korea will resume a tourist rail service to and from Dorasan Station, the country's northernmost train station, on Friday, the Unification Ministry said Thursday on its official website.

According to the ministry, the service, suspended for about six and a half years, will allow visitors to travel to the station near the inter-Korean border, a symbolic site of past cooperation between South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The train will run beyond Imjingang Station into the civilian control zone, offering public access as part of a "peace tourism" program. It will also connect major sites in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, including Dora Observatory, Unification Village and Camp Greaves, according to local media reports.

Dorasan Station, once envisioned as a key transit hub linking the Korean Peninsula, has long been regarded as a symbol of inter-Korean connectivity despite ongoing tensions.
