KABUL, April 9 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,300 former government officials and prominent personalities have returned to Afghanistan over the past four years as part of a national initiative to encourage expatriates to contribute to the country's reconstruction, local media Tolo news reported on Thursday.
According to Tolo, the Commission of Liaison and Repatriation of Afghan Personalities has been providing logistical support and guidance to those seeking to return. A key factor in facilitating their homecoming has been the general amnesty in place for returnees, which is intended to ease concerns and foster an atmosphere of national reconciliation.
The commission recently reviewed its ongoing efforts and discussed ways to further streamline the return process.
Political analysts have noted that expanding the initiative to include younger professionals and local leaders could enhance the reintegration process and help channel valuable skills into national recovery programs. ■
