KABUL, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Seven members of the same family, including women and children, were killed when the roof of their house caved in overnight in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, a local official said Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Sherzad district, according to Qurishi Badlon, the provincial director for information and culture. All seven victims died on the spot.

The tragedy follows a similar event on Monday night in the same province, when the collapse of mud-brick roofs under heavy rainfall claimed five lives and left four others injured.

The latest fatalities add to a mounting toll from days of severe weather across Afghanistan. At least 132 people have been killed and 192 injured following heavy rainfall, landslides, roof collapses, thunderstorms and lightning over the past 12 days across the country.

Residential homes in Afghanistan's remote and rural areas are predominantly constructed from mud, a building method that renders them highly vulnerable to collapse during severe weather.
