ULAN BATOR, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's measles death toll has risen to 17 after two additional deaths recorded over the past 24 hours, the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said on Monday.
The NCCD also confirmed two new cases of measles, bringing the national total to 14,562 since the current outbreak was declared 407 days ago.
The NCCD urged individuals who have not yet been vaccinated to get immunized to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted through respiratory droplets and direct contact. Common symptoms include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat and inflamed eyes. The disease is preventable through vaccination. ■
