Man arrested for starting fire at Tokyo's bustling Shibuya crossing

TOKYO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo police have arrested a man on suspicion of obstruction of traffic after he set a fire at the famous Shibuya scramble crossing on Friday evening.

The police said that at around 9 p.m. local time on Friday, the man scattered liquid from a plastic bottle on the ground in the crossing, the bustling intersection of the Japanese capital's entertainment district, and set it on fire with a lighter.

The suspect left the scene, but police later arrested a man in his 50s who turned himself in at the nearby police station, admitting to starting the fire, according to the police.

The fire was put out by police officers, and no injuries have been confirmed so far, they added.
