JAKARTA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded a monthly inflation rate of 0.41 percent in March 2026, despite the heightened consumption during the Eid al-Fitr holiday season, while annual inflation stood at 3.48 percent, the country's statistics agency said on Wednesday.
The Ramadan and Eid momentum usually led to higher demand, particularly in food and transportation, but overall inflation remained under control, the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) said in a virtual press conference.
"The expenditure group contributing the most to monthly inflation was food, beverages, and tobacco, which saw inflation of 1.07 percent and accounted for 0.32 percentage points of overall inflation," said Ateng Hartono, deputy for distribution and services statistics at BPS.
Hartono said the inflation trend in March reflected relatively balanced price movements, supported by stable supply and demand conditions. However, he cautioned that seasonal consumption patterns and global economic uncertainties remain key factors to monitor in the coming months, as authorities strive to keep inflation within the target range. ■
