PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's renowned Angkor Archaeological Park recorded a total of 270,911 international visitors in the first quarter of 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 32 percent, said a press release on Wednesday.
The UNESCO-listed world heritage site made 13.1 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales during the January-March period this year, also down 30 percent year-on-year, said the press release from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.
Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-km Angkor Archaeological Park, the kingdom's most popular tourist destination, is home to 91 ancient temples, which were built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, told Xinhua that the decline was likely due to regional economic slowdowns, online scam issues, border conflicts, and rising global fuel prices. ■
