VIENTIANE, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Lao authorities have issued a nationwide weather warning on Monday, citing a low-pressure system combined with south-westerly winds affecting all parts of the country, bringing extremely hot temperatures, persistent dry haze throughout the day, and the possibility of hailstorms in some regions.

Authorities have warned that thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected in some areas, with a significant risk of hail in certain locations, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The warning follows a recent hailstorm that struck Sikhottabong district in Lao capital Vientiane, causing widespread damage in 17 villages. A total of 5,490 homes were affected, along with five schools, two temples, a village office, a health center, and a vaccine production facility. The storm also damaged 53 vehicles and left nine people injured.

In response, the Central Disaster Management Committee, in collaboration with government ministries, the private sector, and the public, has been providing essential aid to affected families. The support aims to ease hardships, assist recovery efforts, and provide relief to those impacted.

On March 27, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith visited the affected areas, offering financial assistance and household supplies to victims. He also proposed that electricity and water bills for affected families be waived for three months to help reduce their financial burden.
