JAKARTA, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed that the free meals program (MBG) will continue despite ongoing fiscal adjustments amid global uncertainties.

Speaking on Sunday in a discussion with journalists and experts, the president said efficiency efforts will be directed toward other sectors rather than affecting the program. He emphasized that MBG is vital for addressing child malnutrition, particularly stunting, and for supporting communities in underserved regions.

Launched early last year, the initiative is widely seen as a long-term investment in Indonesia's human capital, aimed at reducing stunting and strengthening the foundation for future generations.

The program aims to reach 82.9 million beneficiaries, including children and pregnant women, by the end of 2026, supported by 35,000 service units.
