NEW DELHI, March 18 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and three others injured on Wednesday in a devastating fire inside a multi-story building in the Indian capital city Delhi, police said.
The fire broke out in a clothes and cosmetics shop inside a four-story building at Ram Chowk Market near Palam area of the city.
"Twelve people were brought to the hospital, and out of them, nine were declared dead on arrival and three were injured," a senior police official, Abhimanyu Poswal, said. "The deceased were identified as two men, four women and three children."
Poswal said forensic and crime teams are investigating the cause, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
According to police, the second and third floors of the building were residential units. ■
