SEOUL, March 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume logged a double-digit growth last month due to robust demand for locally-made semiconductors, central bank data showed Tuesday.

The export volume index jumped 16.6 percent in February from a year earlier, continuing to increase since November last year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, export for computers, electronic and optical devices surged 50.9 percent in February on a yearly basis on the back of soaring demand for semiconductors used for artificial intelligence chipsets.

Export volume for farm goods, electrical equipment, machinery and transport equipment tumbled in double figures.

The export value index spiked 28.6 percent in February from a year earlier, slower than an expansion of 37.1 percent in the previous month.

The import volume index mounted 10.6 percent in the cited month, and the import value index swelled 7.9 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export price to import price, was up 13.0 percent in February on a yearly basis owing to the import price fall.
