JAKARTA, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is preparing to gradually replace diesel power plants with renewable energy as part of efforts to maintain a stable power supply amid global geopolitical uncertainty, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said on Thursday.
Bahlil made the remarks after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to discuss ways to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and strengthen national energy security amid geopolitical tensions and oil price volatility.
"Given the current geopolitical situation and global conflicts, we cannot be certain about the long-term energy outlook, so we must optimize all available domestic energy resources, including shifting away from fossil fuels," Bahlil said.
The ministry, in coordination with state electricity company PT PLN, is adjusting the national power development plan, with large-scale solar and geothermal projects expected to be rolled out in the near future. ■
