MANILA, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines confirmed on Tuesday that a Filipino seafarer remains missing after a tugboat assisting a distressed vessel was attacked in waters near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Philippines' Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured full support to the family of the missing seafarer.

Cacdac said the seafarer's fellow colleagues were all reported safe, but the lone seafarer remains unaccounted for.

Around 6,400 Filipino seafarers on vessels in the Middle East have been monitored and marked as safe, said the DMW, adding that it continues to monitor ships carrying Filipino crew near the Strait of Hormuz.
