ISLAMABAD, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Four terrorists were killed in a shootout with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) during an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, officials said Monday.
The operation was carried out in the Dera Ghazi Khan district on the reported presence of militants, according to a CTD statement.
The militants opened fire on the raiding team, triggering an exchange of gunfire in which four terrorists were killed while 11 others managed to escape.
Weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the site, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, the CTD said.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the CTD team for foiling a major terror plot, saying the militants were planning attacks on police posts and other state installations. ■
