TOKYO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on Sunday, the country's weather agency said.
The temblor occurred at 10:17 p.m. local time at a depth of 10 km, measuring 3 on Japan's seismic scale of 7 in some areas in Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The quake's epicenter was located off the coast of Sanriku at a latitude of 39.4 degrees north and a longitude of 143.2 degrees east.
No tsunami advisory was issued, according to the JMA. ■
