KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia, through Mimos Bhd, a local IT company, is intensifying efforts to build the country's capabilities in integrated circuit design, advanced packaging and other high-value technologies.
The country's deputy science, technology and innovation minister said on Wednesday that the strategy aims to help local firms transition into original design manufacturers and technology owners, according to the country's national news agency Bernama.
The deputy minister said Mimos is strengthening research and development infrastructure, intellectual property capabilities, technology transfer and talent development to support the journey from research to commercialization.
These initiatives will accelerate Malaysia's shift from an assembly-based economy to one driven by technology creation and ownership, he said. ■
