KABUL, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan air force launched fresh air raids inside Pakistan and targeted military bases, inflicting damage and casualties around midnight Friday, said a statement of the Afghan National Defense Ministry on Saturday.
"National Defense Ministry's Air Force once again launched airstrikes on Pakistani military bases in Miranshah and Spinwam, carried out around twelve o'clock, midnight. Consequently, these strikes destroyed the Miranshah and Spinwam military bases, causing severe damage and heavy casualties," the statement posted on the ministry's social media X asserted.
It is the second time in a single day on Friday that the Afghan air force claimed carrying out strikes inside Pakistan. Earlier in the day, it claimed targeting military bases in several Pakistani cities, including Islamabad.
Tensions between the two neighboring countries have risen in recent days amid a surge in militant violence in border regions. ■
