PHNOM PENH, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Overseas Cambodian workers sent home about 1.86 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, significantly down from 2.95 billion dollars in the year before, said a Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training report on Thursday.
A total of 433,594 Cambodians had worked abroad by the end of last year, remarkably down from roughly 1.38 million a year earlier, according to the report.
The significant drop in the number of Cambodian migrant workers overseas was due to the large-scale return of approximately 940,000 Cambodian workers from Thailand following the border conflict between the two nations.
Cambodian Minister of Labor and Vocational Training Heng Sour said the conflict has adversely affected Cambodian workers in Thailand.
To date, about 320,000 laborers returned from Thailand have been granted jobs by enterprises in the garment and non-garment manufacturing sectors, he said at the ministry's annual conference.
Heng Sour added that some others have been employed in the areas of construction, food and beverage services, and agriculture, among others. ■
