KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will adopt a cautious approach in determining its position on the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with the United States, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told the country's parliament on Tuesday.
Responding to a question on the implications of legal developments in the United States concerning the legality of tariffs imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump, Anwar said any decision on the existing ART must be weighed against national security and trade interests.
"We will continue to monitor the ART closely as the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling is not yet final, and we are awaiting congress's position," he said.
Anwar added that the government needs space to assess the developments and implications of U.S. decisions, particularly concerning Malaysia-U.S. bilateral trade, which he valued at 367.5 billion ringgit (94.35 billion U.S. dollars). (1 ringgit equals 0.26 U.S. dollars) ■
