KABUL, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and eight others injured in two separate road accidents in northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan and Samangan provinces, local police officials reported on Monday.
In the first crash, a passenger vehicle veered off the road and overturned in an area along the highway linking Shiberghan city, the provincial capital of Jawzjan, to Andkhoy district in neighboring Faryab province. The accident killed one person on the spot and injured six others, including a woman and a child, according to Qari Abdul Sattar Halimi, spokesman for the Jawzjan provincial police.
The second incident occurred on the outskirts of Khulm district in Samangan province, where a car lost control and turned turtle, killing two commuters and injuring two others, the provincial police office said in a statement.
Officials blamed reckless driving for both accidents and urged drivers to follow traffic rules strictly to avoid further tragedies. ■
