YANGON, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will convene the first session of its third Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) on March 16, according to an announcement issued by the Pyithu Hluttaw on Monday night.

The National Defense and Security Council also released an announcement on Monday, stating that the first session of the third Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) and the first sessions of the third Region and State Hluttaws (Region and State Parliaments) will be held on March 18 and March 20, respectively.

Myanmar's Union Solidarity and Development Party has won a majority of seats in the Union Parliament in a general election earlier this year, according to official results released by the Union Election Commission.

Myanmar's Union Parliament consists of two houses with a total of 664 seats: the 440-seat Pyithu Hluttaw and the 224-seat Amyotha Hluttaw.

The newly formed Union Parliament will elect a new president, who will then form a new Union Government.
