VIENTIANE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Lao authorities have stepped up nationwide publicity and voter mobilization efforts ahead of the election of members of the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature and the fifth Provincial People's Councils on Feb. 22.
According to a report of the Lao People's Army Radio on Friday, a meeting was convened to review reports from sub-committees responsible for monitoring and supporting election preparations at both central and local levels.
The Lao National Election Committee has announced 243 candidates for the 10th National Assembly, including 66 women, representing 27 percent of the total. A total of 175 members will be elected to the legislature. ■
