NEW DELHI, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Five persons died in India's eastern state of Bihar after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at a pre-wedding ceremony, confirmed a local government official on Friday.

The pre-wedding ceremony was held in a village on Feb. 14. All the victims died over the past couple of days after complaining of stomachache, vomiting, headache and dizziness.

Though no conclusions had been drawn yet, it was believed that the victims had consumed spurious liquor at the pre-wedding ceremony. As per the latest reports, a post-mortem was being conducted on the bodies to find out the main cause of death.

The sale and consumption of alcohol have been banned in Bihar for the past ten years. However, spurious liquor was said to be freely available through illegal means across the state. In past years, several incidents of mass deaths due to the consumption of illicit liquor had taken place in the state.
