COLOMBO, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Total revenue from Sri Lanka's national botanic gardens reached 1.39 billion rupees (about 4.5 million U.S. dollars) in 2025, up 7 percent from 2024, despite the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, the Department of National Botanic Gardens said in a statement on Friday.
The department attributed the increase mainly to a rise in tourist arrivals, adding that the figures reflect the gardens' contribution to tourism earnings and broader economic activity.
The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya alone attracted more than 1 million visitors last year, while total visitors to all botanic gardens exceeded 2 million, figures from the department showed. ■
