VIENTIANE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nationwide publicity and voter mobilization efforts for the election of members of the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature and the fifth Provincial People's Councils are continuing across the country, as Lao people prepare to cast their ballots on polling day with hopes of contributing to the nation's future direction and advancing further socio-economic development.

Soudthida, an office worker in Lao capital Vientiane, expressed optimism ahead of the upcoming elections, saying she believes her vote can contribute to advancing the country's socio-economic development.

"I believe every vote matters. I hope it can contribute, even in a small way, to advancing our country's socio-economic development," Soudthida told Xinhua on Friday.

She said she hopes the elected representatives will help shape a stable and prosperous future for Laos, with particular attention to economic issues.

"I hope inflation can be better managed so that the cost of living becomes more stable," she said.

Soudthida added that her main concern is the economic environment, noting that a stronger business climate would enable vendors to sell more products, consumers to purchase goods with greater confidence, and local investors to expand their businesses, while also attracting increased foreign investment to support national growth.

Chanhdy, a resident of Vientiane, emphasized that every voice plays a role in shaping the nation's future and called on all eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming national elections on Feb. 22.

Young voters are also looking to the elections with hopes for greater representation and long-term development, particularly in education and workforce opportunities.

Chintana, a 24-year-old resident of Vientiane, said she is encouraged by the presence of female candidates and hopes that more skilled women will be elected to promote gender equality.

"I hope to see continuous improvement in our education sector, which is the foundation of everything. If we invest in quality education, we are investing in the future of our country," Chintana said.

The Lao National Election Committee has announced 243 candidates for the 10th National Assembly, including 66 women, representing 27 percent of the total. A total of 175 members will be elected to the legislature.

The elections are among the most important events in the country's political calendar, giving citizens a direct role in shaping national development.
