PHNOM PENH, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported garments, shoes, and travel goods totaling about 1.4 billion U.S. dollars in January 2026, up 7.2 percent compared to the same month last year, said an official report on Thursday.
Garments worth 1.01 billion dollars were exported in January this year, up 6.7 percent compared to the same month last year, said the report compiled by the Ministry of Commerce, adding that footwear worth 196.6 million dollars was shipped to international markets, up 16.8 percent.
Also, travel goods and bags equivalent to 188 million dollars were exported, up 1.1 percent, the report said.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the continued growth reflected the kingdom's effective market diversification beyond its traditional partners.
"This upward trend is likely to continue throughout 2026, supported by external demand and new investment inflows from China and South Korea and Japan," he told Xinhua.
The garment, footwear, and travel goods industry is Cambodia's largest foreign exchange earner, accounting for 46.5 percent of the kingdom's total export value, according to the report.
The sector currently consists of more than 1,500 factories and branches, employing over 900,000 workers, mostly women, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. ■
