KABUL, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works has signed a contract with a private company for the construction of a key road linking two districts in eastern Wardak province, a spokesman said on Thursday.
The 60-km road will connect Chak and Day Mirdad districts of the province, with practical work expected to begin shortly, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshinas, the ministry's spokesman, posted on his X account.
The project, valued at nearly 2.04 billion afghanis (nearly 33 million U.S. dollars), is expected to significantly improve transportation links between multiple districts within the province. Haqshinas noted that the road will enhance access to markets for locally produced agricultural products and strengthen connectivity among rural communities.
The project is part of broader efforts by the Afghan government to advance infrastructure development across the war-torn country, including the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, airports, highways, water canals, and solar power systems aimed at supporting economic recovery and improving living conditions. ■
